Great place, good food, and a wonderful friend

Weekends away from school are always refreshing, calming, and rejuvenating, especially when shared with a close friend.

Asheville: my home away from home. It's fairly close to home, but for some reason it always feels so right when I'm there, right in the middle of its eclectic buildings and artsy folk. Especially when I sip my liquid truffles at The Chocolate Lounge...

...and indulge in rich soups and fancy drinks at The Laughing Seed cafe...

...and, of course, a little Chris Thile doesn't hurt...

Going home is always nice too- seeing my family, my dogs, and my fireplace. Getting to use a full-size kitchen* and dance around the kitchen to Disney music with  my sister...

and, of course, a little field frolicking is always necessary...

*Blood Orange Olive Oil Cake from Smitten Kitchen:
I made the topping with Greek yogurt, and used plain Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt- it made the cake very moist and delicious!

Film Photography

A photograph taken on a film camera is just one of those things in life that never fails to fill me with inspiration and satisfaction. There's just something about the effect that classic film gives pictures- like a wonderful memory you'll never forget, a song that never gets old, or your favorite meal- timeless and priceless.
I've been so fortunate to have been able to use two different film cameras. One fairly new one that my dad used before the digital craze kicked in...
...and one older one, that was my grandfather's back in the day...

Unfortunately, both of them have stopped working. One is not catching the film to roll it, the other is closing the shutter to take the picture but does not re-open (or open, and does not re-close- I'm not very knowledgeable about cameras). I've been told that repairs on these oldies could be very expensive, but hopefully they will be able to tweak something on one of them when I have the time to bring them in.

Happy Wednesday

The Beach

South Carolina beach in February is a prime location for crisp, rejuvenating walks and deep, intentional reflection...
